When sorrow strikes, very few people think of others. But megastar Chiranjeevi has shown that compassion can shine even in moments of deep personal grief. The family’s decision to arrange the eye donation of his late mother-in-law, Allu Kanakaratnam, has touched countless hearts.
Allu Kanakaratnam, the mother of popular producer Allu Aravind and grandmother of superstar Allu Arjun, passed away at the age of 94.
Chiranjeevi, who shares a close bond with the Allu family, was among the first to rush to her side after hearing about her condition. By the time he reached, she had already passed away.
It was then, amid the grief, that he remembered a conversation he once had with her.
Speaking about it later, the actor shared an emotional memory. He recalled asking her if she would ever consider eye donation. She had replied that once a person leaves the world, the body turns to ashes, and donating something that could help another life was the better choice.
Although she never signed an official pledge, her words had stayed with Chiranjeevi.
So, in the early hours of Saturday, at around 2:30 a.m., Chiranjeevi called a member of his blood bank team and asked if the donation could be arranged. The process was set in motion. “I asked Aravind garu what I should do, and he told me to go ahead,” Chiranjeevi said.
By morning, her eyes had been donated to a hospital.
The veteran actor has often spoken about the importance of organ donation in the past.
