The movie brings back one of the most famous toy-based fantasy worlds and introduces a fresh live-action version of the classic story.

A new live-action take on the classic franchise

‘Masters of the Universe’ is based on the fictional universe created by Mattel in 1982. The latest film is the second live-action adaptation of the franchise. The first live-action movie was released in 1987 and featured Dolph Lundgren in the lead role.

The new film gives the popular characters a modern look while staying connected to the original universe that has entertained fans for decades.

Nicholas Galitzine leads the cast as He-Man

The story follows Adam Glenn, also known as He-Man, played by Nicholas Galitzine. He must defend his home planet, Eternia, from the dangerous villain Skeletor, played by Jared Leto.

The film also features Camila Mendes as Teela and Idris Elba as Man-at-Arms. The supporting cast includes Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Charlotte Riley, Morena Baccarin, Artie Wilkinson-Hunt, Eire Farrell, and several other actors.

Directed by Travis Knight with a strong creative team

The film is directed by Travis Knight. It is produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Robbie Brenner, and DeVon Franklin.

The screenplay was written by Chris Butler, who joined the project after earlier script drafts had been prepared by David Callaham and filmmaking duo Aaron and Adam Nee.

Strong opening but long road to the big screen

‘Masters of the Universe’ was released in theatres on June 5. During its opening weekend in North America, the film earned USD 29.3 million, finishing second at the box office behind ‘Scary Movie’.

According to reports, the movie was made on a budget of around USD 200 million. Its journey to the screen took several years, with the project moving between Netflix, Warner Bros., and Sony Pictures before Amazon MGM acquired the rights in 2024.
