Kajol believes pay should be decided by box office success not by gender

The gender pay disparity is an issue that also prevails in the film industry and the stars are now raising voice against it. After the Hollywood stars, the leading ladies of B-town have become vocal too. In a recent interview with IANS, Kajol expressed her opinion on the matter.

The 43-year-old actress says pay parity is essential but should be decided by box office success. “The debate on pay parity is a thought which has been put out. The pay should be according to genre, how the box office is and box office success,” Kajol told IANS.

“Pay equality is coming up to par. To call it a ‘trend’ would be a strange (it is) something that should be a natural fact of life,” she further added.

Earlier, Deepika Padukone, one of the highest paid actors in the Indian film industry, said women must not shy away from demanding and even fighting for the pay they think they deserve.

She said, “For years, we’ve been made to feel we should be okay with settling for less, with sometimes a promise of getting something more later on. But I think you should get what you think you deserve. It’s okay to fight for it, and it’s okay to feel uncomfortable initially because that’s just the way we’ve been made to feel for so long.”
