Actor Naseeruddin Shah and lyricist Javed Akhtar hailed Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur after she withdrew her campaign against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad on Tuesday following "rape" threats and backlash on social media.
"I don't about her but Mr Minister I know who is polluting your mind", Javed Akhtar wrote on Twitter in response to Minister Kiren Rijiju's remark about Gurmehar.
Daughter of a martyr,Gurmehar garnered a lot of attention on social media when she posted a video on Facebook, saying, "I am a student of Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me."
She posted the video on Facebook with reference to the unrest that is caused by the ABVP members at Ramjas College, Delhi University, on February 22.
Actor Naseeruddin also issued a statement in her support and called her a brave girl, according to reports.
Gurmehar was, on Monday, mocked at by cricketer Virender Sehwag and actor Randeep Hooda for voicing her concern. Following criticism and threats to her, the DU girl announced her withdrawal from her campaign on Tuesday morning.
Despite the withdrawal, the Lady Shri Ram Student got unequivocal support of DU students and her teachers.
