Filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh recently resigned from the post of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) jury head recently. He did as he was against the decision of Information and Broadcasting Ministry (I&B) for dropping names of two movies from the final list of movies to be screened at the festival.

Marathi film Nude helmed by Ravi Jadhav and Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s Malayalam film S Durga were the two films which were pulled out of the list of movies to be featured at 48th International Film Festival of India. It was done by the Ministry without consultation the IFFI jury.

I&B Ministry released the final list on November 9 and had taken off these two names, which were recommended by the jury. The list includes names of 16 non-feature and 26 feature films.

The two films were recommended for the Indian Panorama section.

Soon after the announcement was made by the Ministry, one of the jury members Apurva Asrani took to Twitter to share his dismay. He wrote, “Sexy Durga & Nude are among the best of contemporary cinema. They both present a powerful and empathetic portrait of women of today’s India. (sic).”

Ghosh has reportedly confirmed the news, but did not reveal anything more.

IFFI is slated to be held in Goa from November 20 to November 28.
