Hollywood star Tom Holland may be one of the world’s biggest actors, but even he knows what it feels like to be left on read.
While promoting his upcoming film ‘The Odyssey’, Holland appeared on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ and shared a funny story about trying to connect with Norwegian football superstar Erling Haaland. His attempt, however, did not go as planned.

A simple message that went unanswered
During the chat, host Jimmy Fallon brought up a post on X that claimed Holland had sent Haaland a direct message asking if they could hang out. According to the post, the footballer never replied.
Fallon even joked that Haaland may not have recognised the actor because he supposedly does not watch movies and thought Holland was just a random person.
Instead of denying it, Holland admitted the story was true.
“Yes,” he said before laughing about the experience. He added that moments like these are good reminders that fame does not guarantee a response from everyone.
‘Not even an excuse’
Holland described the silent response as a “humbling” experience.
He joked that he confidently thought he could invite Haaland out for dinner, but the footballer never replied.
“There was not even a response, not an excuse, not ‘I’m busy tonight, I’m playing football’; nothing,” Holland said, adding that he received absolutely no reply to his message.
The actor took the situation in good humour and laughed about how things turned out.
The Monaco Grand Prix inspired the message
Holland also explained what made him reach out to Haaland in the first place.
He said the two were at the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix at the beginning of June. While watching seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton race, Holland spotted Haaland in a hospitality suite across from him.
Seeing the football star encouraged him to take a chance.
“I thought I’d shoot my shot,” Holland said, explaining that he decided to send the footballer a text after noticing him at the event.
A story he never expected to share
Looking back, Holland admitted he never imagined the unanswered message would become a topic of discussion on national television.
“I never imagined I would talk about it on live television, but here we are,” he joked, making the audience laugh.
Before ending the conversation, Fallon asked whether Holland would still like to have dinner with Haaland if the chance came.
The actor responded with another playful remark. Referring to the recent England-Norway World Cup game, Holland said he was no longer sure Haaland would want to have dinner with him after what had happened “the other day.”
