A new biopic is going to celebrate the extraordinary life of Canadian scientist and environmental activist David Suzuki. The internationally respected figure, who has spent decades inspiring people to care for the planet, will now be the subject of a feature biopic currently in development, according to ‘Variety’.

The project is a production of Serge Noël under the banner of Possibles Media. Noël is no stranger to acclaimed work. He earlier co-produced the award-winning ‘Stereo Girls’.

This time, he has teamed up with screenwriter Maria Camila Arias, best known for co-writing ‘The Kings of the World’, which was showcased at the San Sebastian Film Festival.

Together, they are presenting the new film to potential partners in Toronto during the ongoing film festival.

Tentatively titled ‘Among the Uprising Trees’, the biopic will dive deep into David Suzuki and his personal and professional journey. It will trace his childhood, family influences, and the pivotal experiences that shaped him into one of the most outspoken voices for the environment.

Noël shared that what struck him most while discussing the film with Suzuki was the activist’s deep bond with his father. That relationship not only nurtured Suzuki’s early love for nature but also pushed him to stand firm in his beliefs.

The producer also pointed out that Suzuki’s life had a complicated relationship with authority in Canada, partly with root in the painful history of his family’s internment during World War II.

This isn’t the first time Suzuki’s story has come to the screen. Back in 2010, filmmaker Sturla Gunnarsson released the documentary ‘Force of Nature’, which went on to win the People’s Choice Award for Documentaries at the Toronto International Film Festival.

However, the upcoming feature promises to offer a more dramatic and emotional retelling, focusing not just on his public achievements but also on the personal struggles and inspirations that defined his path.
