Tumbbad 2 update: Actor and producer Sohum Shah has officially announced that his production house, Sohum Shah Films, is collaborating with Pen Studios, led by veteran producer Jayantilal Gada, for the much-awaited sequel to ‘Tumbbad’.
The announcement came straight from Sohum himself, who shared the big news with his fans on Instagram. In his post, he wrote that ‘Tumbbad 2’ will not just be another film but a promise to push creative boundaries. “The journey begins,” he signed off.
This update arrives at a time when ‘Tumbbad’ is enjoying a fresh wave of love. The film, originally released in 2018, was re-released in 2024 and surprised everyone by smashing box office records.

To everyone’s amazement, it even beat the opening day collections of classics like ‘Sholay’, ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, and modern hits like ‘Rockstar’.
For Sohum Shah, this moment is deeply personal. In an earlier statement, he explained, “’Tumbbad’ has been a special journey and a labour of love for us. The love it continues to receive is overwhelming. And, it confirms what we always believed at Sohum Shah Films, that content is king.”
The first film told the haunting story of Vinayak Rao, played by Sohum Shah himself. With only a lantern in hand and his young son by his side, Vinayak ventured into the dangerous world of myths and greed.
The heart of the story revolved around his obsession with a hidden treasure, protected by the terrifying mythical being Hastar.
Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and written by Mitesh Shah, Prasad, Barve, and Anand Gandhi, ‘Tumbbad’ carved a niche for itself in Indian cinema.
