Sunny Deol opened up about his iconic role in the 1993 film ‘Damini’, saying he had no idea the character would go on to become so loved by audiences. The actor shared this during the trailer launch of his upcoming film Ikka.
Sunny revealed that his connection to the film started through friendship, not ambition. His friends were the ones producing Damini, and he simply wanted to be part of it.
He said the role was originally seen as a small one. “My friends were producing the film. At that time, I also wanted to be a part of the film. I had no role in it. It was a small character, according to them. They asked me, and I said yes,” he shared.
He added that he agreed without overthinking the size of the part. He just wanted to be involved in the project.
A character he never expected to become so big
Sunny admitted he had no clue the role would turn into one of the most memorable characters of his career. “I never imagined that the film would become such a huge hit and my character would become so popular, sitting in everyone’s hearts. I had no idea about it,” he said.
He spoke about why he continues to choose roles the way he does. He said he enjoys playing characters without worrying about where the journey will take him. For him, the process itself is the reward.
He also mentioned that he never got a similar role again after Damini, calling it a character that stayed with people in a way few others have.
