Actor Sridevi’s mortal remains are likely to reach Mumbai today. The Dubai Police has recorded the statement of producer-husband Boney Kapoor. Sridevi died in Dubai by accidental drowning in her hotel bathtub after losing consciousness.

Boney was called to the Bur Dubai police station for questioning. The police took his statement after which he was allowed to return to his hotel.

However, a diplomatic source said that with the new development of the case being referred to the Public Prosecution, the repatriation issue is now open-ended.

India’s Ambassador to the UAE, Navdeep Singh Suri, added that the Indian Embassy was in talks with the Dubai authorities to get clearance and is hopeful it will happen soon.

Dubai Police have transferred the case to Dubai Public Prosecution, which will carry out the regular legal procedures.

Initial investigation showed that Sridevi drowned following the loss of consciousness in the bathtub of her hotel room. Meanwhile, sources also informed that the laboratory results revealed she had consumed alcohol and was in an inebriated state when she slipped and fell into the bathtub that was filled with water.

The police said that there was no clear criminal motive with regard to her death; neither did she suffer a cardiac arrest like it was reported earlier.

A formal medical committee, under the supervision of senior police officials, is supervising the investigation.

Sridevi’s mortal remains are expected to be released later on Tuesday after blood and organ test results are out.
