Bollywood loves anniversaries, but this one hit straight in the heart. Sonam Kapoor went full nostalgia mode as her powerful film ‘Neerja’ completed 10 years.
The actress quietly dropped a throwback on Instagram Stories; scenes from the film with just four words: “10 years of Neerja.”

‘Neerja’ changed everything for Sonam Kapoor
Playing real-life hero Neerja Bhanot was not just another role for Sonam. It became a defining moment of her career. The film told the story of the brave head purser who saved hundreds during the 1986 hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi by alerting the pilots and grounding the aircraft.
Her final act of courage still gives people goosebumps. Neerja lost her life while helping passengers escape. But because of her bravery, 359 out of 379 people on board survived.
Behind the camera: The dream team
The film was directed by Ram Madhvani. The supporting cast included Shekhar Ravjiani, Shabana Azmi, Yogendra Tiku, Kavi Shastri, and Jim Sarbh.
The film bagged two big honours at the 64th National Film Awards: Best Feature Film in Hindi and a Special Mention.
Where Sonam Kapoor is now
After ruling hearts with emotional roles, Sonam last appeared in ‘Blind’ in 2023. Over the years, Sonam appeared in popular films like ‘I Hate Luv Storys’, ‘Raanjhanaa’, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, ‘Sanju’, and ‘Veere Di Wedding’.
There was also major buzz around the adaptation of Battle for Bittora, to be produced by her sister Rhea Kapoor and based on author Anuja Chauhan’s novel. The film promised romance plus politics, but it has stayed stuck in development for years.
