Alia Bhatt in Tumbbad 2: The eerie world of ‘Tumbbad’ is returning to the big screen after six years. Actor and producer Sohum Shah first surprised audiences in 2024 when he officially announced ‘Tumbbad 2’, the sequel to his cult fantasy-horror film.

This time, filmmaker Adesh Prasad has taken charge as the director, bringing a fresh vision to the dark mythology. The makers have promised that the sequel will expand the mysterious universe.

The film is already in production, and filming is currently taking place in Mumbai. The release date has also been locked for December 3, 2027. The project is backed by Sohum Shah Films along with Pen Studios, which are jointly handling the production.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui joins the expanding mythological universe

In March this year, Sohum Shah added another major update that increased excitement among fans. Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has officially joined the cast of ‘Tumbbad 2’.

His role has not been revealed yet.

The sequel is said to continue exploring the cursed mythology surrounding the deity known as Hatsar.

Alia Bhatt reportedly entering ‘Tumbbad 2’

A recent media report has added another surprising name to the project. Actress Alia Bhatt is reportedly set to make a special appearance in ‘Tumbbad 2’.

While there is no official confirmation from the makers yet, sources suggest that her role will be an important turning point in the story.

According to the report, the filmmakers were looking for someone who could bring both impact and mystery within a limited screen time. Alia Bhatt was said to be a strong fit for that requirement.

Her shooting schedule is already being planned. She is expected to begin filming on May 3 in Mumbai, at a specially designed set in Madh Island. The shoot is planned for two days, but not in a continuous stretch.

There is also a tight scheduling challenge. Alia is expected to attend the Met Gala on May 4, which means the production team has arranged her shoot around this international appearance.

Reports also suggest she will return briefly after May 6 to complete her remaining portions.

Because of the tight timeline, the makers are also rumored to be using a body double for a few patch scenes to ensure completion of the sequence without delays.

On April 30, Sohum Shah officially confirmed the release date by sharing a new poster on his social media account. The film is now locked for a theatrical release on December 3, 2027.
