Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan has given her fans a peek into a new chapter of her life, one she didn’t exactly see coming. The ‘Rang De Basanti’ star recently revealed that she was suddenly hit by perimenopause, the transitional phase before menopause.
“I’ve never really been a morning person,” Soha admitted on social media, “more a ‘don’t talk to me until I’ve had my coffee’ kind of soul. And then suddenly, I realised I can’t have coffee on an empty stomach. Hello, perimenopause.”
The perimenopause wake-up call
For years, Soha started her day with a strong cup of coffee, but her body suddenly said, “Nope!” The actress revealed that hormonal shifts during perimenopause, especially fluctuating estrogen, can make things like acidity, bloating, and caffeine sensitivity worse.
To adapt, Soha swapped her beloved brew for a warm water lemon-ginger-chia drink. She described it as a “gentle game changer” that gives her hydration, better digestion, reduced bloating.
Adding a pinch of turmeric
Soha didn’t stop there. She sprinkles a pinch of haldi (turmeric) into her morning concoction. Why? Because turmeric contains curcumin, a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that can help ease joint stiffness, bloating, digestive issues, all of which are more common during perimenopause and menopause.
Pairing it with black pepper, she explains, improves absorption, making it more effective.
