“There is something about ‘Piyu Bole’ that just has my heart,” Vidya said. “It’s so easily hummable, has that old-world charm, and is incredibly romantic. The way we shot it made the song timeless. Even today, it resonates with people.”
She added that the song’s charm reaches across generations. “I’ve had young kids tell me they love this song, which just proves how timeless it really is.” Vidya also recalled her emotional first experience with the film’s music. “The first song I heard that was recorded for ‘Parineeta’ was ‘Raat Hamari Toh’. I was shooting with Dada in Kolkata for a music video. That’s when he said, ‘Go down to the car, there’s a CD with a song we’ve just recorded.’ I played it, and I burst out crying in the car. It was haunting, beautiful, and powerful. I love every single song in ‘Parineeta’.”
Even 20 years on, the song continues to bring joy to old fans and win over new listeners.
