Bollywood gossip mills are buzzing again. And this time it’s all about romance, maturity, and a reunion fans have waited decades for. If things fall into place, the king of charm may return to love stories, but with grown-up twist that matches his real age and screen aura.

Industry whispers say Shah Rukh Khan is in advanced talks with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for a romantic drama. And this is not your usual boy-meets-girl fairy tale. This one is said to be deeply emotional, layered, and rooted in the realities of life after 50.

The two icons last created magic together in ‘Devdas’, a film that still lives in Bollywood history. Now, more than two decades later, they might reunite but with a completely different love story.

A mature love story with career struggles

According to sources, the planned film will show Shah Rukh Khan playing a man over 50 who is going through a rough phase in his career. Unlike larger-than-life heroes, this character will be grounded and emotionally vulnerable.

During this difficult period, he meets a woman who runs a start-up. Their connection slowly turns into love. The romance is expected to focus on companionship, healing, second chances.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Bhansali approached SRK recently. The superstar had earlier been offered a film, reportedly ‘Inshaallah’. However, the project never moved forward after Salman Khan stepped away, leading to it being shelved.

From ‘Devdas’ nostalgia to busy present schedules

Their previous collaboration, ‘Devdas’, also featured stars like Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit. Based on the classic novel by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, it told the tragic story of Devdas, Paro, and Chandramukhi.

While this new project remains under discussion, Shah Rukh Khan is currently busy shooting for the action thriller ‘King’, directed by Siddharth Anand. The film has a huge ensemble cast including Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, Abhay Verma, Jaideep Ahlawat, Raghav Juyal, and Rani Mukerji.

On the other hand, Bhansali recently made his OTT debut with ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ in 2024. The series was set in Lahore’s Heera Mandi during the Indian independence movement and explored the lives of tawaifs dealing with political turmoil and personal struggles under British rule.
