It started like one of those “wait, rewind that” moments on the internet. A familiar voice, a dramatic film line, and suddenly timelines were buzzing like it was 2007 again.
Yes, it’s Shah Rukh Khan again because when it comes to global attention, SRK doesn’t even need a new release. This time, the Academy itself turned nostalgic and shared a clip of his iconic speech from ‘Om Shanti Om’.
The caption they posted read, “One thing about destiny… it doesn’t miss. Film: OM SHANTI OM (2007) Directed by Farah Khan Written by Farah Khan, Mushtaq Shiekh and Mayur Puri Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade and Kirron Kher.”
And just like that, Bollywood’s glittery reincarnation drama was back in global conversation.
Academy’s throwback post brings ‘Om Shanti Om’ back in spotlight
The Academy’s social media post felt like a reminder of how deeply ‘Om Shanti Om’ has stayed in pop culture memory. The film, directed by Farah Khan mixes love, reincarnation, drama, comedy, and a sharp sense of self-aware humour.

Released in 2007, the film quickly became a massive box office success. It starred Shah Rukh Khan in double role. He played both struggling junior artist from 1970s and his reborn version years later.
The story follows Om who is a background dancer and dreams big but meets a tragic end only to return in a new life with one goal. And that is revenge for his lost love and unfinished past.
A film that mixed glamour, satire and star-making magic
Beyond the drama, ‘Om Shanti Om’ is remembered for its larger-than-life style. It is filled with colourful sets, dramatic storytelling, songs that still play at celebrations. The film also introduced Deepika Padukone in her Bollywood debut.
The cast also included Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade, and Kirron Kher.
What made the film stand out was how it mocked Bollywood itself in a very subtle manner. It showed behind-the-scenes ego, dreams, clichés of the film industry while still continuing to celebrate cinema at every step.
Even years later, ‘Om Shanti Om’ remains a cultural favourite.
