Salman Khan dodges arrest in ‘saffron-infused’ pan masala controversy: Rajasthan HC halts bailable warrant

It seems Salman Khan can breathe a little easier, at least for now. The Rajasthan High Court has granted relief to Bollywood’s Bhaijaan from bailable warrant issued by the Jaipur District Consumer Commission-II. This means the actor no longer has to appear before the Commission on April 13, a date that was earlier declared a “final opportunity” to comply or face arrest.

What is the case?

The controversy traces back to a complaint by Yogendra Singh Badiyal. The issue? Allegedly misleading advertisements for Rajshree Pan Masala endorsed by Salman Khan himself.

The products were promoted as “saffron-infused cardamom” and “saffron-infused pan masala,” which Badiyal argued created a false impression of safety and quality. “Consumption of pan masala is widely known to be linked to serious health risks, including cancer,” he pointed out.

Earlier this year, on January 6, 2026, the Consumer Commission had issued an interim ban on the promotion and advertising of these products. But reports suggest ads continued just three days later, with hoardings spotted across Jaipur, Kota, and other cities.

Salman Khan pushes back

In March, Salman Khan and the pan masala company challenged the Commission’s earlier orders. They argued that any legal action for misleading ads should only be initiated by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) in New Delhi or its authorized officers. They also claimed that the complainant didn’t qualify as a “consumer” under the law.

However, a bench led by Justice Devendra Kachhawaha, with judicial member Arun Kumar Agrawal and member Liyaqat Ali, didn’t buy this line of defense.

They stressed that centralising such powers in New Delhi could slow down relief for consumers across India.

The Consumer Commission had previously issued bailable warrants against Salman Khan on four separate occasions. None of these attempts were successfully executed, despite warnings of stricter action for non-compliance.
