His father, Abdul Rashid Khan, was a high-ranking police officer (DIG in the Indian Imperial Police), and his grandfather, Anwar Khan, was an Alakozai Pashtun who moved from Afghanistan to India in the 1800s and served in the cavalry of the British Indian Army.

Salim Khan’s family life also became headline news. He first married Salma Khan (born Sushila Charak), whose roots span Jammu & Kashmir (father) and Maharashtra (mother).

Later, Salim married Helen Richardson, the famous actress and dancer.
