‘Saiyaara’ box office collection on Day 1: The romantic drama ‘Saiyaara’ has emerged as an unexpected blockbuster right from its first day on box office.
Despite starring fresh faces with no prior film releases, the movie raked in a staggering ₹21.25 crore on its opening day in India.
Directed by Mohit Suri, ‘Saiyaara’ is turning heads not just for its earnings but for how it achieved them. The film skipped the typical Bollywood marketing circus: no talk shows, no dance reality show appearances, no social media frenzy with endless interviews.
And yet, it drew packed houses at both single-screen theatres in smaller towns and swanky multiplexes in metro cities.
Film trade expert Taran Adarsh confirmed the numbers on X (formerly Twitter), calling it a “historic debut.” He wrote, “#Saiyaara is the BIGGEST OPENER EVER for a film headlined by newcomers.”
Adarsh also pointed out that the movie has outdone the advance bookings of some of this year’s most anticipated releases, including ‘Housefull 5’, ‘Raid 2’, ‘Sikandar’, and ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’.
What’s even more interesting is how this low-key approach seems to have paid off. Veteran filmmaker Sanjay Gupta took to social media to praise YRF, the production house behind ‘Saiyaara’, for steering clear of the usual pre-release media blitz.
According to Gupta, this move preserved the “freshness” of the lead pair and made their on-screen chemistry more impactful.

“Whoever at YRF decided to keep Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda away from interviews and podcasts before release deserves a medal,” Gupta wrote. “The audience got to meet them first in theatres, not on YouTube or Instagram. And look at how beautifully it has worked.”
The film, set against the backdrop of music and creativity, tells the story of Krish (played by Ahaan Panday), an ambitious singer trying to make his mark, and Vaani (Aneet Padda), a thoughtful lyricist who writes his songs.
Their journey is about love that transcends their differences; whether it’s age, background, or personal flaws. The film’s tagline sums it up well: “Flawed, imperfect people make for the perfect love story.”
Critics and audiences seem to agree that the film’s emotional depth and fresh pairing have struck the right chord. There’s already buzz that the numbers could soar higher over the weekend as word-of-mouth spreads.
For Mohit Suri, known for films like ‘Aashiqui 2’ and ‘Ek Villain’, this is yet another romantic drama that hits home. But this time, the win is even sweeter, considering he introduced two newcomers to such an overwhelming reception.
