Bollywood composer and singer Sachin Sanghvi, one half of the popular music duo Sachin-Jigar was arrested on Thursday (October 23) for allegedly sexually assaulting a young woman after promising her a role in a music album and marriage, according to Mumbai Police.

Sachin-Jigar are popular for creating chartbusters like ‘Stree’, ‘Bhediya’, and ‘Shiddat’.

According to the police, the complainant is a woman in her twenties who claims that Sachin first contacted her on Instagram in February last year. The singer allegedly messaged her personally, complimented her, and later offered her an opportunity to collaborate on his upcoming music album.

What began as a professional exchange reportedly took a dark turn. The woman told the police that Sachin invited her to his music studio where he allegedly proposed marriage and later sexually assaulted her multiple times under the pretext of being in a relationship.

Officials confirmed that the arrest came under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) dealing with sexual assault and cheating.

Sachin’s lawyer, Aditya Mithe, has denied all accusations, calling them “absolutely baseless and unsubstantiated.” In a statement to the media, he said, “There are absolutely no merits to the case. My client’s detention by the police was illegal, and that is why they released him on bail immediately. We intend to defend all allegations fully.”

As of now, Sachin has not issued any public statement. His verified Instagram account, @soulfulsachin, is no longer there. Even his musical partner Jigar Saraiya has remained silent on the matter.

This case has reignited conversation about power dynamics and exploitation in the entertainment world especially when newcomers often find themselves vulnerable to manipulation. Instances of artists or industry insiders using promises of fame or marriage to exploit others have surfaced a number of times.

And over the years, Bollywood has witnessed multiple such accusations against actors, filmmakers, and musicians.
