In a one-of-its-kind initiative, The Recyclewala Story Search 2015 will travel to 110 towns all over India to look for a sensational and extraordinary script.
“What we are looking for is the magic of a great story,” says Sohum Shah, the founder of Recyclewala Films.
“At Recyclewala, all our films come to us as ideas and then go through a process of evolving into film scripts," adds the actor-filmmaker.
Taking baby steps, Recyclewala Films has slowly made a name for itself as a production house that aims to bring diverse voices from India to the big screen. The company plans to make this ‘story search’ an annual feature.
"The Recyclewala Story Search is very close to my heart because I am also an outsider, and I understand just how tough it can be to find your way around here,” says Sohum who recently won accolades for his performance in Talvar.
His appetite for unconventional stories was whetted when he decided to back Ship of Theseus, which eventually won National Award.
After that, he offered Tumbad.
Meanwhile, Recyclewala Films has done the distribution for Nishtha Jain’s National award-winning documentary, Gulabi Gang, and produced Megha Ramaswamy&’s hybrid short documentary Newborns, which premiered at TIFF 2014.
In a daze after getting rave reviews for displaying a chameleon-like transformation in his role as the investigating officer Vedant in Vishal Bhardwaj’s latest production Talvar, Sohum is carving a niche for himself.
The script hunt commenced on Oct 14 and will go on till Nov 15. The selected entries will be announced on Nov 25.
The writers of the winning scripts will get Rs.500,000 as signing amount.
