Bollywood is getting ready to bowl a big one. And this time, it’s all about the Prince of Kolkata. The much-awaited Sourav Ganguly biopic starring Rajkummar Rao is finally ready to go on floors this March.

The film is being mounted on a massive scale by filmmakers Vikramaditya Motwane and Luv Ranjan, along with producer Ankur Garg. Their plan is simple but bold: tell the story of Sourav Ganguly with as much authenticity as possible.

Real stadium drama at Lord’s Cricket Ground and Eden Gardens

The makers have locked two of cricket’s most iconic venues Lord’s Cricket Ground and Eden Gardens as primary shoot locations. Lord’s, often called the Mecca of Cricket, holds special emotional value in Ganguly’s journey.

Permissions are currently being worked out, and if all goes as planned, the crew will shoot across Kolkata, Mumbai, and London starting March. The aim is to recreate defining moments from Ganguly’s career exactly where they unfolded.

Rajkummar Rao’s viral look sparks debate

When first visuals of Rajkummar Rao surfaced online, the internet had a meltdown. His new hairstyle, tinted glasses, and beard-moustache combo had fans asking one big question: is this for Ganguly, or did the actor just change his look randomly?

The speculation finally ended when Rao confirmed the news himself. He made it official in an interview with NDTV, saying he is indeed playing Ganguly in the biopic.

Rao has already started preparing. Reports say he will undergo intense cricket training to perfect Ganguly’s batting style and on-field presence. The film will focus on Ganguly’s heroic moments and the massive impact he had on Indian cricket.

The actor also revealed that he plans to work hard on getting the Bengali accent just right.

Rao openly admitted he feels “extremely nervous” about stepping into Ganguly’s shoes. He called the role a huge responsibility but also said it’s going to be a lot of fun.

For the record, Rajkummar Rao was last seen in ‘Maalik’ (2025).
