For over thirty years now, the name Prem has been inseparable from Salman Khan. Remember the innocent charm of ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ and the heartwarming family tales of ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!’ and ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’? In these films, Prem went on to become a symbol of the quintessential Indian hero. Now, that legacy is being handed over to a new generation with Ayushmann Khurrana. He is ready to step into the role in Sooraj Barjatya’s upcoming family entertainer.
In a chat with Moneycontrol, Ayushmann opens up about the mix of excitement and pressure that comes with inheriting such a legendary mantle. “Big shoes to fill,” he admits. “But Sooraj sir and I met somewhere in the middle. He’s adapted the story to suit my style, and I get to bring my own flavor to Prem. I think that’s a beautiful balance.”

Ayushmann Khurrana promises that this won’t be a carbon copy of Salman’s version. Instead, he will present a Prem that resonates with today’s audiences; a modern take on the ideal man who remains rooted in love, respect, and family bonds. “It’s a classic family entertainer at heart,” he says, “but it also has a contemporary layer. That’s what makes it really exciting.”
The timing couldn’t be better for Ayushmann, who is riding high after the success of his horror-comedy ‘Thamma’. With five Rs 100-crore hits under his belt, he says he’s more confident than ever to explore different genres.
Ayushmann’s upcoming calendar is packed. After ‘Thamma’, he has a Holi release titled ‘Pati Patni Aur Who 2’, a fun festival film. Following that, he will be part of a Sikhya-Dharma collaboration, described as a quirky comedy before finally diving into Sooraj Barjatya’s family saga next year.
