Bollywood’s versatile actor Pankaj Tripathi is taking a heartfelt leap into the world of theatre not alone, but with his family. Alongside his wife, Mridula Tripathi, Pankaj is launching their first-ever production under their new banner, Roopkatha Rangmanch, with a musical comedy titled ‘Lailaaj’. The production carries a very special personal touch: their daughter, Aashi Tripathi, will be making her stage debut.

“Seeing Aashi perform for the first time on stage fills me with pride,” Pankaj said. “As a father, it’s an emotional high; as an actor, it’s a responsibility. And as a producer, it’s an excitement I can’t put into words. Watching her rehearse, stumble, improve, and finally shine takes me back to my own early days on stage.”

Pankaj Tripathi shared that daughter Aashi’s debut is more than just a family milestone. “Theatre is a magical space where an artist truly falls in love with the craft. I hope audiences embrace ‘Lailaaj’ with the same warmth and curiosity they have shown me throughout my career.”

For Pankaj and Mridula, Roopkatha Rangmanch is an emotional homecoming to Pankaj’s roots in theatre.

“I started my journey performing on stage, surrounded by borrowed costumes, chaotic backstage moments, and the thrill of a live audience,” he said. “Those years taught me patience, sincerity, emotion, and discipline. ‘Lailaaj’ is our tribute to theatre, to the craft, and to every artist discovering themselves under the spotlight.”

The production promises a lively mix of humour, music, and heart, written and directed by Faiz Mohammed Khan, who also composed and penned the lyrics for the show. Pankaj explained that choosing a musical comedy as their first project was intentional: “We wanted something that celebrates the joy of theatre while telling a story that connects with everyone. Faiz has crafted a piece that’s funny, touching, and full of life.”

‘Lailaaj’ is scheduled to run on 21st, 22nd, and 23rd November at Rangshila Theatre in Mumbai.
