Mrunal Thakur is all ready to charm audiences in ‘Son of Sardaar 2’, stepping into the lively shoes of Rabia, a Punjabi woman with a flair for dance, drama, and dhamaal.

The film’s trailer, which recently dropped to much fanfare, shows Mrunal embracing her character with colourful Punjabi dialogues and some foot-thumping bhangra.

But behind all that energy was a lot of hard work, and Mrunal didn’t shy away from sharing what it took to bring Rabia to life.

Speaking at the trailer launch, the actress opened up about the highs and hurdles of playing such a culturally rich role.

“For me, it was slightly difficult to act, dance, and groove to the beats of the dhol hats off to all those who play it,” she admitted. “The Punjabi accent was a bit tough too, but everyone helped me through it. Interestingly, I even learned some French in Punjabi! If you watch the trailer, you’ll see Rabia has her own shades. Being a Maharashtrian, it was quite challenging to play a Punjabi role. Par, sound bolte hi hum sab form mein aa jaate the.”

Though Mrunal comes from a Maharashtrian background, she was excited to take on the role that was so different from anything she’d done before. She credited her team and co-actors for helping her get into the groove.

When asked about diving into comedy, a genre that demands not just timing but quick adaptability, Mrunal shared some key takeaways from the experience. “Comedy is also about give and take you just react to what the other person is saying. Sometimes, you get so engrossed in delivering the line, but there are a lot of improvisations, so you just have to go with the flow. That’s what I learned from everyone you have to be present, and the line needs to land. If the line doesn’t land, there’s no point.”

‘Son of Sardaar 2’, directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, marks Mrunal’s first collaboration with Ajay Devgn. The film also features an impressive ensemble including Ravi Kishan, Deepak Dobriyal, Mukul Dev, Kubbra Sait, and Chunky Panday.

Set to hit theatres on July 25, 2025, the film is a sequel to the 2012 hit and aims to deliver the same flavour of humour, love, and cultural celebration.
