Rumours can spread faster than facts on social media. This time, they’ve caught up with Manoj Bajpayee and the acclaimed actor has firmly denied claims suggesting that he has endorsed a political party, calling out a doctored video that’s being circulated online ahead of the upcoming Bihar elections.
The viral clip, which has been doing the rounds on various platforms, appears to show Bajpayee promoting a political agenda. But the actor says it’s completely fake, a cleverly edited version of an old ad he had filmed for an OTT platform.
On Friday, Bajpayee addressed the issue directly on his official X account. In a calm yet firm post, he clarified, “I would like to publicly state that I have no association or allegiance with any political party. The video being circulated is a fake, patched-up edit of an ad I did for @PrimeVideoIN.”

He also appealed to the public to stop spreading the manipulated clip, adding, “I sincerely urge everyone not to engage with or encourage misleading content.”
The video, according to reports, was edited to make it look like Bajpayee was delivering a political message. This tactic has become increasingly common during election season.

This isn’t the first time a celebrity’s likeness has been misused online. In recent months, several Bollywood stars have moved to legally safeguard their image and personality rights. This comes amid the light of the growing use of AI-generated deepfakes on the internet and severely edited media.
Hrithik Roshan recently obtained legal protection to prevent the unauthorized commercial use of his image. Even Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, and filmmaker Karan Johar have taken similar steps.
The concern over manipulated content has become a serious issue. This blurs the lines between reality and fabrication especially when it involves trusted public figures.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Manoj Bajpayee continues to shine. He last appeared in ‘Inspector Zende’. It is a Netflix film where he portrays a determined cop who managed to capture the notorious criminal Charles Sobhraj twice in his career. Directed by Chinmay Mandlekar, the film is currently streaming.
