Shah Rukh Khan’s much-anticipated film Zero has landed in legal trouble for allegedly hurting Sikh sentiments. Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa filed a complaint against the team of Zero on Monday.

In his complaint filed with the SHO, Manjinder alleged that Shah Rukh Khan has been shown wearing ‘Gatra Kirpan’ in the promo of the film, and that the poster of the film has created an outrage in the community.

The makers have now issued a statement responding to the complaint and clarified that it’s a dagger not a ‘kirpan’ which Shah Rukh Khan is carrying in the trailer of the film.

“The concern is duly noted and we wish to respectfully clarify that the film does not depict a Kirpan but in fact has used what is commonly known as a Katar. The filmmakers have been careful not to hurt the feelings of any community including the Sikh community,” the statement read.

“The film is about celebrating incompleteness and to tell a heartfelt story. We trust you (MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa) will appreciate our stand that any concern this may have caused is completely inadvertent,” it continued.

Shah Rukh plays the role of a vertically-challenged person in the film, which is set to be released on 21 December.

Zero marks the second collaboration of Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma after Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The trailer has so far received an outstanding response from the entertainment industry and audiences.
