Actress Kangana Ranaut has spoken out in favour of making workplaces more child-friendly. She opened up about the challenges faced by working mothers, who are often expected to balance both family and career. Her comments came during the promotional campaign for her upcoming film ‘Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata’, set to release on June 12, 2026.

What triggered the conversation

During a promotional interaction with co-stars Smita Tambe and Girija Oak, published on the official handle of makers Pen Studios, Kangana shared an incident from the shoot.

She recalled how Smita Tambe’s daughters would often visit the set of ‘Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata’. This made her realise that workplaces are still not designed with working mothers in mind.

The core argument: Facilities, not just encouragement

Kangana believes telling women to work more is not enough if workplaces do not support that decision in practical terms.

She pointed out that simply encouraging women to join and remain in the workforce is not enough. Facilities must also be provided so that mothers can bring their children to work without hesitation. She added that while women are increasingly taking up demanding careers, the lack of support at the workplace often forces them to make an unfair choice between their families and professional ambitions.

She drew a contrast with existing facilities at workplaces. “We talk so much about having prayer rooms and other facilities at workplaces, but why are there no rooms for children?” she said.

Government responsibility

Kangana also brought the government into the conversation. She said that if India truly wants women to participate in the workforce at scale, policy-level support is non-negotiable.

“The government has a dream, and they want women to participate. When women participate on this scale, this will be a huge challenge. They will have only one choice; family or career. If you want women to go into this very aggressively, they need a lot of support,” she explained.

She urged the government to offer more support to enable women’s participation in the workforce.

The remarks came in the context of promoting Kangana’s upcoming film, which itself centres on women in extraordinary circumstances.
