A known animal lover, actress Jacqueline Fernandez expressed her happiness over a successful rescue operation of an old elephant from Satara district in Maharashtra.

Gajraj, the 63-year-old tusker was held in chains as a tourist attraction at a temple in the Maharashtra town for the last 50 years.

His tusks had been chopped off and the beast was in agony due to abscesses on his hind quarters and elbows with mental distress caused by social isolation and continuous abuse in captivity.

On hearing about the plight of the old elephant, Jacqueline Fernandez was deeply moved and the news of the animal's rescue came as relief for the actress, who took to Twitter to express her happiness.
