Actor Imran Khan stepped out with his partner Lekha Washington to join the grand celebration marking 25 years of his uncle Aamir Khan’s landmark film ‘Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India’. The event drew a wide gathering of Bollywood celebrities.
Double milestone for Aamir Khan
‘Lagaan’ is set to complete 25 years of release on June 15 this year. Aamir Khan and Aamir Khan Productions hosted a grand party on June 13 with the entire cast and crew of the film. Along with ‘Lagaan’, Aamir Khan Productions also celebrated its silver jubilee, making it a double celebration. During the get-together, Aamir hosted various actors, technicians, and filmmakers who have been part of the 25-year journey of Aamir Khan Productions.
Stars turn out in force
The event was attended by several prominent Bollywood stars, including Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, and Kajol, who joined Aamir to celebrate the 25-year legacy of ‘Lagaan’. Salman Khan made a rare appearance alongside Aamir. During the celebration, Aamir Khan was photographed holding his daughter Gauri’s hand, creating a family moment at the event.
Imran Khan arrived at the event with Lekha Washington. The two have been seen together at several family and industry events over the past couple of years. Imran Khan and Lekha Washington have been together since 2024.

Cast reunion before the party
Ahead of the 25th anniversary, Aamir Khan hosted a special reunion for the cast and crew of the iconic film, bringing together several members who were part of the landmark project. The reunion took place ahead of the film’s anniversary on June 15 and saw director Ashutosh Gowariker joining Aamir Khan for the occasion. Several cast members were also present, including Paul Blackthorne, Rajendranath Zutshi, Aditya Lakhia, Yashpal Sharma, Akhilendra Mishra, and Dayashankar Pandey.
Sharing glimpses from the gathering on social media, the makers posted a reunion video with the caption, “Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker reunite with the Lagaan cast after 25 years.”
About Lagaan
Released on June 15, 2001, ‘Lagaan’ was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and produced by Aamir Khan. Its blend of sports, drama, romance, and social commentary helped it connect with audiences both in India and overseas.
Set in 1893 during British colonial rule, ‘Lagaan’ followed the story of villagers burdened by heavy taxation who challenged British officers to a cricket match in an attempt to secure relief.
‘Lagaan’ was screened at numerous international film festivals. It was the third Indian film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. During the 49th National Film Awards, the film went on to win eight awards, including Best Popular Film.
The music, composed by A.R. Rahman, includes songs such as ‘Ghanan Ghanan’, ‘Mitwa’, ‘Radha Kaise Na Jale’, and ‘O Rey Chhori’, which continue to remain popular with audiences today.

Imran Khan, born on January 13, 1983, in Madison, Wisconsin, is an American actor of Indian origin known for his work in Hindi-language films. He was previously married to Avantika Malik from 2011 and divorced in 2019. The couple has a daughter.
Lekha Washington is an Indian actress, artist, and product designer who has predominantly appeared in Tamil and Telugu language films as well as a few Hindi films. Alongside her acting work, she has developed a parallel career as a product designer and installation artist. She is a graduate of the National Institute of Design and launched her own label, Ajji, in Mumbai.
The two have been photographed together at multiple family events in the Khan household, including Ira Khan’s wedding in early 2024. Their presence at the ‘Lagaan’ celebration marks another public outing for the couple.
