For Diljit, the nomination is extra special. He has been shortlisted alongside some of the world’s finest actors like David Mitchell for ‘Ludwig’, Oriol Pla for ‘Yo, Adicto (I, Addict)’, and Diego Vasquez for ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’.

Sharing his joy on Instagram, the singer-actor kept it humble and credited his director. “It’s all because of @imtiazaliofficial Sir,” he wrote.

Parineeti Chopra, who played Amarjot Kaur in the film, was equally thrilled. She took to social media to express her excitement, writing, “WOOOHOOOO! Proud of my Team Chamkila!”

The film tells the story of Punjab’s legendary folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila. People often described as the “Elvis of Punjab.” Known for his fearless lyrics and high-energy stage presence, Chamkila dominated the Punjabi music scene in the 1980s.

His meteoric rise ended in tragedy. This happened when he and his wife Amarjot Kaur were killed in 1988 at the age of just 27.

When it premiered on Netflix, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ quickly found both commercial success and critical praise. Viewers admired how it brought back the voice of a man who had once been silenced too soon.
