The complaint

The complainant, a woman residing in New Delhi, submitted a written complaint on April 20. Following a preliminary inquiry, police registered the FIR under Sections 74, 79, 123 and 126(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

These sections relate to sexual harassment, assault on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, causing grievous hurt by means of poison and wrongful confinement.

According to the complaint, Johray called the woman to a room at the Taj Chandigarh under the pretext of a professional meeting. She alleged that he then sexually harassed, assaulted and wrongfully confined her. She also alleged that an intoxicating substance had been mixed into her drink without her knowledge.

How the complainant joined the film

The complainant stated in her account that she was a student at Government College when a faculty member forwarded her resume to the ‘Dhurandhar’ production team. She alleged that she was subsequently hired as an Assistant Art Director on the film on September 2, 2025.

According to the complaint, Johray introduced himself as her mentor during the course of the project. She stated that he told her he was an alumnus of the Delhi College of Art. She alleged this information helped build her trust in him.

The woman further claimed that Johray later invited her to meet him at a hotel room in Chandigarh, stating that the meeting was work-related. She said she initially believed other team members would also be present. She alleged she later realised she had been called to the room alone.

The complainant also stated that Johray repeatedly warned her not to tell anyone about the meeting, claiming it could harm her professional reputation.

What allegedly happened at the hotel

According to the FIR, the woman reached the Taj Chandigarh at around 8:30 pm on September 10, 2025. She alleged Johray pressured her to consume alcohol and prepared drink containing wine and rum. She claimed that despite her hesitation, he insisted she finish it.

Complainant stated that shortly after consuming the drink, she got dizzy. She alleged that she repeatedly asked to leave the hotel but was stopped from doing so.

The woman also alleged that Johray, under the pretense of teaching her bachata dance, engaged in inappropriate physical contact and made unwelcome advances toward her. She stated that her physical condition deteriorated rapidly, and that she vomited multiple times over the course of the evening.

Alleged confinement through the night

According to the complaint, despite the woman’s repeated requests to go home, she was not permitted to leave the hotel room. She alleged that Johray continued inappropriate behaviour while she was in the bathroom. She further alleged that he forced her onto a bed and pressured her to stay overnight at the hotel.

The complainant stated that she was frightened, physically weakened and unable to resist. She alleged that she remained under severe distress through the night. According to the FIR, she left the hotel the following morning by booking a bike taxi.

Complainant’s claims of further harassment

The woman’s complaint did not end with the incidents at the hotel. She alleged that Johray subsequently filed complaints against her. She stated that these counter-complaints caused her additional mental distress.

The nature of those complaints filed by Johray has not been publicly detailed. Police have not commented on that aspect of the matter.

Investigation and legal status

The Chandigarh Police have confirmed that a case has been registered and that investigation is currently underway. Johray has secured bail and continues to remain out of custody as proceedings continue.

Neither Johray nor any representative on his behalf has issued a public response to the allegations.

‘Dhurandhar’, directed by Aditya Dhar, starred Ranveer Singh and was released in December 2025. The film was produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios.
