The makers of ‘Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story’ have unveiled the film’s first look poster. The announcement came on Sourav Ganguly’s birthday, along with confirmation that the film will hit cinemas on May 14, 2027. Rajkummar Rao plays the former India cricket captain in the biopic.
The poster recreates one of the most memorable moments in Indian cricket history, Ganguly’s shirt waving celebration from the Lord’s balcony. That moment followed India’s win over England in the 2002 NatWest Trophy final. The image has since become closely associated with a new era in Indian cricket under Ganguly’s leadership.
Rajkummar Rao chose to unveil this first look as a birthday wish for Ganguly, sharing it on the same day as the cricketer’s birthday celebrations.

Ganguly shared the poster on his official Instagram account and wrote a short message calling it the best gift ever. He added that he could not wait to watch Rajkummar Rao play his signature cover drive on screen.

According to the makers, the film traces Ganguly’s journey starting from his early days as a young cricketer, all the way through to becoming one of India’s most influential captains. The story focuses on the resilience and conviction that shaped his career, along with his significant role in transforming Indian cricket during his time as captain.
Who is behind the film
Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. It is produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg. The film is presented by Gulshan Kumar, Bhushan Kumar, T-Series and DBL, and comes under the Luv Films banner.
Actor Tanya Maniktala has been cast as Dona Ganguly, Sourav Ganguly’s wife. The film is also expected to explore the couple’s relationship in detail.
To bring authenticity to the Bengali setting of the story, the makers have brought in several well known Bengali actors. Aparajita Adhya has been cast as Ganguly’s mother, Nirupa Ganguly. Saswata Chatterjee will play his father, Chandi Ganguly. Additional supporting roles have also been filled by other actors from the Bengali film industry.

The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on May 14, 2027. Its first look poster was specifically timed to release on Ganguly’s birthday.
