Awarapan came out in 2007. Shivam Pandit died at the end of it. Fans never fully accepted that ending. Nineteen years later, Emraan Hashmi is bringing him back. The teaser dropped this week and the response has been significant enough for Emraan to address it publicly.

Emraan shared a collage on Instagram. Two images side by side. Shivam Pandit from 2007 and Shivam Pandit from the Awarapan 2 teaser. The caption did the rest.

“Awarapan has never been just a film for me. It’s been 19 years of carrying Shivam with me, wherever I went,” he wrote.

He thanked fans directly. “Thank you for rooting for him, for this grand and loving welcome, and for opening your hearts to everyone who’s joined the journey since. Watching this family grow with you has been the best part of all of this,” he added.

It was not a promotional post dressed up as emotion. Awarapan was genuinely a defining film for Emraan. It was also one of those films that built its reputation slowly, over years, through people who kept watching it.

What the teaser shows

The teaser was released on the 19th anniversary of the original film. The timing was deliberate.

It opens with Shivam’s return. There is a voiceover about destiny and the idea that some stories are beyond anyone’s control. He is shown visiting Aaliyah’s grave. The conflict between living and dying is present throughout.

The teaser then moves into action. Shivam fights enemies. He confronts his own emotions. The closing line lands hard. “Iss baar ya to ye Awarapan khatam hoga ya main.” This time either the wandering ends or I do.

It is a direct continuation of what the first film left unresolved.

The film and who is behind it

Awarapan 2 is not directed by Mohit Suri, who made the original. That detail matters. The sequel is directed by Nitin Kakkar, known for Filmistaan and Jawaani Jaaneman. The screenplay is written by Bilal Siddiqi.

The cast alongside Emraan includes Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi. No details about their roles have been shared beyond their names being attached to the project.

The film releases in theatres on August 14, 2026. Independence Day weekend.
