Alpha teaser OUT: Alia Bhatt is built to kill and Bobby Deol to foot the bill

Screengrabs from the teaser

Yash Raj Films has released the teaser for ‘Alpha’. The film is the first female-led entry in the YRF Spy Universe. The action thriller stars Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, and Bobby Deol in key roles. The teaser had been one of the most anticipated drops in recent Bollywood memory, and its arrival marks the beginning of a major promotional push for a film that has already seen its share of delays.

What the teaser shows

The teaser focuses on the origin story of a girl who is raised and built to become a killing machine. It is the first origin story within the YRF Spy Universe where the protagonist is an assassin.

The teaser, titled Alpha Teaser No. 1, has been certified U/A 16+ with a runtime of 1 minute and 58 seconds. It gives audiences their first proper look at the film’s tone, the scale of action, and the two lead characters.

Alia Bhatt portrays a highly skilled assassin. Bobby Deol trains her.

The cast and crew

Directed by Shiv Rawail, the ensemble cast also includes Anil Kapoor and R. Madhavan in key roles.

The screenplay has been written by Shridhar Raghavan, with dialogues by Ishita Moitra. The story is by Shiv Rawail. The film is produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films.

Music for the songs has been composed by Aaishvary Thackeray, while the score is by Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara.

Shiv Rawail is best known for directing the Netflix series ‘The Railway Men’. ‘Alpha’ is his feature film debut.

Bobby Deol’s role and the ‘War 2’ connection

Audiences got their first glimpse of Bobby Deol’s character in ‘Alpha’ well before this teaser. In the post-credit scene of ‘War 2’, Bobby Deol appeared on screen, tattooing the logo of a covert agency on a young girl’s hand. He told the girl that Alpha means “the fast, the fastest and the strongest.”

Bobby Deol is playing the antagonist in ‘Alpha’.

Fans speculated that the young girl in the ‘War 2’ post-credit scene was a younger version of Alia Bhatt’s character. Bobby will portray the primary antagonist and train Alia’s character, only for them to become adversaries later.

Landmark moment for the YRF Spy Universe

‘Alpha’ is the seventh film in the YRF Spy Universe. The franchise has grown through major titles such as ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, ‘War’, ‘Pathaan’, ‘Tiger 3’, and ‘War 2’.

All six earlier entries in the franchise had male protagonists at their core. For the first time in the YRF Spy Universe, an assassin takes center stage in an origin story.

For Alia, the film adds a full-scale action franchise to a filmography that has steadily moved between prestige dramas, romance and commercial spectacle.

Release date and language

The film hits theatres on July 3, 2026. It has shuffled its release date more than once, but YRF has now settled on that date for good.

Apart from Hindi, ‘Alpha’ will also release in Telugu and Tamil.

A YRF spokesperson had earlier said: “Alpha is an extremely special film for us and we want to present the film in its most cinematic self.”
