Actor-producer Prosenjit Chatterjee has come forward with heartfelt words for the people of North Bengal, who have been hit hard by devastating floods and landslides since Saturday.
Taking to Instagram, the 63-year-old star urged everyone to extend support to those affected. “Our hearts are with the people of North Bengal during this immense struggle. While our ground support may seem small, our solidarity with you is endless. We may be far away, but in spirit, we are with you every moment. Your courage inspires us,” Prosenjit wrote.
In his message, Prosenjit Chatterjee also highlighted the role of Bengali cinema in giving people hope, especially during tough times.
“Cinema brings joy, but it also gives hope. We feel the pain and cries of North Bengal deeply. At this moment, we feel the need to join hands with you. Without the people of North Bengal, our cinema, our very existence, feels incomplete,” he added.

The situation in North Bengal has been dire. A strong southwest monsoon combined with a cyclonic air circulation unleashed heavy rainfall since Saturday night. The downpour triggered landslides and flash floods across Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and surrounding areas. This has claimed several lives.
Overflowing rivers swept away houses, bridges, roads, and even tea gardens. Villages and reserve forests have been submerged. Residents and animals are left stranded.
Tourists have been severely affected as well. Many visitors who were already in the region are stranded. Others who had planned trips in the coming days are now seeking refunds. Many are postponing their plans due to safety concerns.
Local authorities are working to rescue those trapped and provide emergency aid. But the scale of the disaster has stretched resources thin.
