Before ‘Rustom’, Aamir Khan wanted to make film on RK Nanavati’s controversial case

Akshay Kumar&’s Rustom has struck the right chord with viewers.

The film revolves around the life of the naval officer KM Nanavati, and the controversial case has inspired many films in the past. From Sunil Dutt starrer Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke to Vinod Khanna starrer Achanak and was also the main subject for the book The Death of Mr Love written by Indra Sinha.

However, what may take you by surprise is that Aamir Khan was initially interested in the topic and wanted to collaborate with director Ram Madhvani, who directed Neerja.

Reports say that Aamir and Ram also met Nanavati&’s widow Sylvia in London.

The talks, however, faded when another film was announced on the same topic.

Rumour also has it that Aamir was impressed with the way the filmmaker pieced the Sonam Kapoor starrer together and was enthusiastic to see his take on the high profile case.

Meanwhile, Akshay&’s Rustom might have had a successful run at the box office, but it failed to impress critics and also faced flak for turning the facts of the case around.

A few sources, who had researched the case for Aamir, were quoted as saying: “It has very little to do with the case. The tone of our film was going to be totally different. It is one of the most important cases of our times and deserved to be brought to celluloid with some responsibility.”
