National Award winning director of several Marathi films, Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni, is not new to the concept of having multi-starrers in his movies. But with Highway soon to hit the screens, the noted filmmaker is reported to be on a roll with the record casting of around 30 actors in major roles in the film.
Kulkarni says there is no protagonist in Highway and each character tells a unique story of their own. “The film is a journey of each character, so there are not any one or two specific protagonists as such,” he says.
“All the actors share equal space and are multi-dimensional, like any one of us,” the director added
Sharing his experience and talking about how much he enjoyed making the film, Kulkarni said, “It was a great learning experience as well as a humbling one for us, since all these established actors had complete faith in me and Girish (actor-writer Girish Kulkarni) who has done full justice while writing the roles for each one.”
“Even for the actors, the length didn’t matter and that kind of faith boosted my confidence as a storyteller,” the director added.
The starcast includes polished actors Renuka Shahane, Girish Kulkarni, Mukta Barve, Sunil Barve and Nagraj Manjule among others. With this movie, popular Bollywood divas Huma Qureshi and Tisca Chopra will be making a debut in the Marathi film industry.
The Highway team was recently seen at the film&’s music launch in Mumbai.
With Highway, the movie music director, Amit Trivedi, is making his debut in a Marathi film.
Living up to the viewers’ expectation, the much-awaited film is slated for release on July 24 all across Maharashtra.
