People’s Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday had words of advice for the Congress. In a series of tweets, Mufti said that the grand old party needs to get someone like BJP president Amit Shah.

She also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi after Lok Sabha election result trends clearly indicated that the BJP-led NDA was on its way to form a government with a clear majority.

“Congratulations to Narendra Modi ji for a historic mandate. Today surely belongs to BJP and it’s allies. Time for Congress to get an Amit Shah,” Mufti tweeted.

Shah, the BJP chief, has been being hailed for engineering the massive success of the saffron party in the elections. On the contrary, the Congress was still struggling to take a lead in at least 55 seats – the number required to elect a leader of the opposition.

Mufti, the former CM of Jammu-Kashmir who contested from Anantnag, conceded defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.

“I’ve been fortunate to get the love & affection of my people. They have every right to express their anger for my failings. Accept their verdict with humility. Congratulations to winning candidates from NC. I’m grateful to my party workers & colleagues,” she tweeted.

At the time of writing, the BJP was leading in 300 seats of the 542 where polling was held. The Congress was leading in 50 and DMK, its Tamil Nadu ally, on 23.

In West Bengal, the TMC was leading in 22 of the 42 seats. In Andhra Pradesh, YSRC appeared to be decimating TDP in 24 of the 25 seats. BJP ally Shiv Sena was leading in 18 seats in Maharashtra and JD(U) in 15 in Bihar. In Odisha, BJD was ahead in 15 seats. In Uttar Pradesh, BSP was leading in 11 seats.
