Former chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah, on Sunday, accused Prime Minister Narendra  Modi of bashing their families in pre-election rallies and then choosing power over the Article 370 by sending envoys to stitch an alliance with the same political families after the elections.

Mehbooba and Omar were reacting strongly to Modi’s remarks against the Abdullah and Mufti families on Sunday morning at an election rally in Kathua. Modi accused the two families of having destroyed three generations in Jammu and Kashmir by siding with the Pakistani proxies.

Mehbooba was quick in responding to Modi’s allegations by tweeting; “Why does PM bash political families pre elections & then sends his envoys to stitch alliances with the very same parties? NC in 99 & PDP in 2015. Why do they choose power over Article 370 then? BJP with its noxious agenda of banishing Muslims & minorities wants to divide India.

“I for once have never lowered political discourse by abusing opponents inc BJP. In order to gain sympathy & consequently power, PM is misleading people by equating himself with the nation. Every Indian owes his allegiance to India not PM Modi. India is not Modi & Modi isn’t India”, she said in another tweet.

National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah lashed out at Modi by tweeting; “We have to rid J&K of these two political families” says Modi ji in 2014 & then promptly goes & makes not one but TWO members of the Mufti family CM of J&K. In 2019 Modi ji says “we have to rid J&K of these two political families”. Another jumla Modi ji?

Omar was referring to the BJP first forging an alliance with the PDP in 2015 when Mufti Sayeed became chief minister with BJP’s support and after his death Mehbooba took over the reins of the state government. Modi had criticised the Abdullah and Mufti families in his campaign during the elections in 2014 as well.
