Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was, on Saturday, slapped by a man while he was doing a roadshow in the Moti Nagar area of the city.

The incident, which was captured on camera, shows the Delhi CM riding in an open vehicle amid the chants of “Kejriwal, Kejriwal” when a man, aged around 30 years, wearing a red T-shirt climbs atop the vehicle and slaps Delhi chief minister.

Following the assault, the Twitter handle of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) tweeted: “Another negligence in the security of CM @ArvindKejriwal. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal got attacked during the roadshow. We condemned this cowardly act. This opposition sponsored attack cannot stop the Aam Aadmi in Delhi.

“Its not an attack on @ArvindKejriwal. Its an attack on Delhi and its mandate. The people of Delhi will give a befitting reply to @BJP4India on 12th of May.”

Pankaj Gupta, AAP National Secretary and Lok Sabha candidate for Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency tweeted: “I strongly condemn the attack on Delhi CM @ArvindKejriwal. He is a democratically elected Chief Minister who deserves all the dignity and security of his office. Why is the ruling party afraid of his popularity among the masses of Delhi?”

Sanjay Singh, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from the AAP tweeted: “@ArvindKejriwal की सुरक्षा में बार बार चूक क्या मोदी सरकार @ArvindKejriwal पर किसी बड़े हमले का इंतज़ार कर रही है? या फिर कोई बड़ी साज़िश है? (Repeated failure of security of Arvind Kejriwal. Is the Modi government waiting for a big attack on Arvind Kejriwal? Is it part of some bigger conspiracy?).”

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Monika Bhardwaj, said that the man has been identified as Suresh (33) who runs a spare parts shop in Kailash Park. He has been detained for questioning at the Moti Nagar police station, she added.
