Sharma had resigned from the post of senior vice-president of the PCC last year to protest against his interests being neglected by the party leadership.

Sharma was expected to join the BJP during the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Akhnoor but this did not materialise as the Congress leadership had reportedly made a commitment for an important assignment in the party to him.

State BJP chief Ravinder Raina said that PCC members Sham Lal Chaudhary and Subhash Langar have also joined the BJP with their supporters.
