Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha and General Secretary AICC, Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Saturday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of creating a war hysteria during the ongoing elections after having failed to fulfil the “false” promises he made during the last Lok Sabha elections in 2014.

Addressing election rallies in the Sofa region of the Udhampur constituency, Azad said that Modi had promised moon to the people but those promises, especially to youth, farmers and poor people of the country, guaranteeing 10 crore jobs, assuring 50% increase  in the minimum support price (MSP)  to the farmers and bring back black money and depositing 15 lakh in the account of every common man, have proved hollow and  today he does not mention anything about those issues except creating war hysteria and fear psychosis amongst countrymen for seeking votes.

The farmers continue committing suicide but the Modi government remained indifferent and insensitive to their genuine issues. The atrocities on women and weaker sections continued unabated and the poor are facing unprecedented price hike but for BJP and Modi government these are no more issues of governance and election issues because they engage and divert people’s attention over issues of religion, caste and especially war hysteria to escape from the questions of cross sections on the delivery of his government in last five years, over those commitments, Azad alleged.

Azad lashed out at the BJP for the divisive and diversionary tactics, especially creating an atmosphere of “mistrust and hate” for political gains and ignoring the larger interests of maintaining social and religious harmony among the diversity in the country which is paramount for the unity and integrity of the nation.

He referred to the achievements of the UPA government and the infrastructure development in all parts of the state.

He said Congress gave priority treatment to the state in every sphere and massive development was undertaken in the state besides setting up class institutions of learning and education and health.

Appealing people to reject the communal and divisive politics, he asked the people to vote for the Congress party and ensure the victory of its nominee Vikramaditya Singh in order to strengthen the secular forces in the country.
