A 28-year-old man was critically injured after allegedly being shot by three bike-borne assailants in southwest Delhi’s Mohan Garden on Monday. Police suspect the case is linked to a gang rivalry.

According to sources, the shooting happened following an ongoing tussle between the Nandu Gang and the Himanshu Bhau Gang.

The incident took place at 6:23 pm in Dwarka, near the Nawada Housing Complex, after which the police were informed by the authorities of the Tarak Hospital that a person had been brought in with gunshot injuries.

“The survivor, Mohit, from Haryana’s Rohtak, was immediately taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre,” a police officer said in a statement.

The officer continued by saying that the preliminary inquiry into this case disclosed that Mohit was attacked by three assailants, who were on a motorcycle. After the attack, they attempted to flee but got stuck in heavy traffic in the area.

Following this, they left their vehicle near the crime scene and fled on foot.

According to the officer, the survivor has already been booked under many criminal cases and has committed at least two heinous crimes that also include murder. “The exact motive behind the attack is yet to be determined; however, the police suspect that it could be a fallout of personal enmity or gang rivalry,” the statement said.

With this, a case has been registered at the Mohan Garden police station.

As part of the investigation, multiple teams have been formed to zero in on the assailants involved in this case.

CCTV footage from the area has been collected to identify the attackers and reconstruct the sequence of events.

“Also, the motorcycle left behind by the suspects has been seized and is being examined for forensic evidence,” the officer mentioned.

The eyewitness to the incident is also being questioned, along with verifying Mohit’s recent activities and associations as part of the investigation.
