A 22-year-old man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in an armed robbery of jewellery worth over ₹50 lakh in Delhi’s Subhash Place, officials said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Shivam, had previously worked as an AC repair technician and later at a garment shop, the police stated.

According to a senior officer, three other individuals—Jitender, Vijay Kumar, and Vishal Sain—had already been arrested in connection with the case.

The incident took place on 12 June, when three armed assailants attacked a jewellery salesman in an upscale area. The victim was stabbed and robbed of gold and silver ornaments valued at over ₹50 lakh.

Based on the victim’s statement, a case was registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation was initiated.

Shivam had been absconding since the incident. A breakthrough came when police received a tip-off about his whereabouts in Agra, where he was subsequently apprehended.

During sustained interrogation, Shivam revealed that he was driven to crime due to financial distress following the death of his father.

“After struggling with low-paying jobs—including working as an AC technician and later at a clothing store in Rohini—he was lured into crime by his neighbour, Kayam. Tempted by promises of quick money and a lavish lifestyle, he joined Kayam and Jitender in planning and executing the robbery,” the officer said.

Shivam confessed to being part of the group that stabbed the salesman before fleeing with the stolen jewellery.

The officer added that the accused had studied up to Class 10 and had no prior criminal record. Further investigation is underway to trace other possible accomplices and recover the stolen items.
