Senior Congress and Opposition leader in the Kerala Assembly Ramesh Chennithala on Sunday said CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury’s statement that party leaders and their families should not make use of their positions for personal gains, is a warning to the CPI-M leaders in the state.

Chennithala said it is significant to note that Yechurymade the statement in the backdrop of allegations of financial fraud against CPI-M state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s son, BinoyKodiyeri. The fact that even the general secretary had to alert the party leaders in the state regarding fraudulent dealings indicates the depth of degeneration in CPI-M, he said.

He said chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s silence on the issue, even after the party general secretary openly talked about it, is strange. It indicates the chief minister is supporting the fraudulent activities in the name of the party, the Opposition leader added.

“It’s surprising chief minister Vijayan is taking no action and keeping mum even after the party general secretary openly talked about the issue. It indicates the CM is supporting the different frauds taking place in the name of the party,” he said.

Responding to questions related to  allegations against  CPI-M Kerala secretary’s son BinoyKodiyeri, the CPI-M general secretary on Saturday said neither the CPI-M leaders nor their children can misuse the party’s name for irregular transactions. Party leaders or their family members cannot make use of the party or their positions for their personal purposes.
