Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav has written to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, demanding a probe into the alleged corruption under the cover of Yamuna cleaning by the previous Aam Aadmi Party government,

He has also sought his active intervention in the Rs 6856 crore alleged scam to hold a comprehensive investigation.

The Congress leader said that the report of the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has revealed that despite spending Rs 6,856 crore for cleaning of Yamuna from 2017 to 2022, there was no significant improvement in the condition of the toxic river, which continues to be highly polluted with sewage and industrial effluents.

Yadav has accused the AAP and the BJP of not being serious about the health of city’s residents, alleging that for over 11 years, the previous government led by Arvind Kejriwal and the present government for the last 8 months failed to control air, and water pollution.

According to Delhi Congress chief’s claim, 15 out of 100 deaths occurring in the national capital were on account of pollution.

He alleged that the AAP, while being in power, squandered thousands of crores of the taxpayers’ money on the pretext of cleaning the Yamuna river.

Yadav further said that the CSE has raised questions on Yamuna cleaning, adding that spending money recklessly will not clean the river, without addressing the root causes for the pollution, and by ensuring that untreated sewage does not land into the river.
