Woman working in Gurugram found dead in Mussoorie homestay during vacation with husband; probe underway

Mussoorie police are investigating the death of a 27-year-old woman who was found inside a homestay on the Mussoorie-Dhanaulti road.

A holiday in the hills turned tragic after a 27-year-old woman from Delhi was found dead inside a homestay room in Mussoorie, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

The woman, identified as P Radha Gayatri, had travelled to Uttarakhand with her husband, Saumya Sricharan. Police said the exact cause of death remains unknown and will be determined after post-mortem and forensic reports are received.

According to officials, Mussoorie Police received information through the emergency helpline early Sunday morning that a woman staying at a homestay in the Tipridhar area on the Mussoorie-Dhanaulti road was unconscious and not responding.

A police team and emergency medical personnel reached the property soon after. Medical staff examined the woman and declared her dead at the scene.

Couple had checked into homestay a day earlier

Police said the couple had travelled from Delhi to Rishikesh on June 13 and later checked into Kiyana Homestay late on the night of June 14.

During questioning, the husband told investigators that the couple had consumed alcohol before going to sleep in the early hours of the morning. He claimed that when he woke up later, he found his wife lying on the floor unconscious.

He also told police that he noticed blood coming from her nose and immediately sought help from the homestay staff, who alerted authorities.

Forensic team gathers evidence

Investigators and a forensic field unit examined the room and collected samples from the scene.

Police said the woman’s body was found on the floor of the room. Bloodstains were noticed on a bedsheet. Officers also recovered two empty liquor bottles and food items from the room.

The site was photographed and videographed as part of the evidence collection process.

Preliminary inquiries found that the couple had married on November 8, 2025. The husband works for an IT company in Pune, while the deceased was employed with a Gurugram-based firm. Police said the visit had been planned as a post-wedding trip.

Post-mortem to determine cause of death

Given the circumstances of the case, inquest proceedings were conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and a Naib Tehsildar.

The body was sent to Coronation Hospital in Dehradun for post-mortem examination. Police said a panel of doctors has been requested to conduct the autopsy, which is also being videographed.

Family members of the deceased have been informed. While her in-laws reached Mussoorie following the incident, her parents were expected to arrive from Visakhapatnam. Both families are originally from Andhra Pradesh.

Mussoorie SHO Devendra Chauhan said investigators are examining all possible angles. He said the cause of death would become clearer only after medical and forensic reports are available.
