After a housewife brought charges of fraudulence against a physician who allegedly had promised to help her conceive under his medical supervision, the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Burdwan has ordered the police to initiate a case of falsification against him.

The housewife – a resident of Bidhanpally locality in the town complained that she had been to the clinic of the physician on Ramakrishna Road on 24 December 2016 as she was diagnosed with complications of pregnancy.

The same physician also runs a clinic at Paikpara in Kolkata and visits Burdwan town twice a week.

The woman complained: “I followed his guidance religiously and continued the medicines prescribed by him and several clinical tests also were done.”

She alleged: “He had promised me that I would be able conceive provided I follow his instructions and medicines. He had charged Rs 5 lakh from me during the period.”

The woman further brought charges that the physician had diagnosed her pregnant sometimes back, which appeared to be fake.

She alleged: “He lied to me and this was revealed once I underwent medical examination under the supervision of another gynaecologist in the town. The other physician rather termed my case as ‘chemically pregnant’, which is a bizarre case and it was not at all a case of biological pregnancy.”

The woman initially had been to the local Burdwan Police Station but her lawyer, Mr Sudipta Roy, said: “The police did not entertain her as the officials have a warm relation with the physician.”

After responding to her writ, the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Burdwan Court, Mr Ratan Kumar Gupta ordered the Burdwan PS to initiate a case under proper sections of fraudulence against the physicians on Saturday.
