The three-day winter session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Monday got off to a stormy note with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators locking horns over the ongoing sealing drive in the Capital.

The blame game between the AAP and the BJP MLAs over the sealing drive in the city prompted Speaker Ram Niwas Goel to adjourn the House four times in two hours to pacify the situation.

As soon the proceedings of the House started, the AAP legislators, who have overwhelming majority in the 70-member Assembly, demanded a discussion on the sealing drive, terming it a violations of rules laid down by the municipal corporations.

In retaliation, the four BJP legislators, led by leader of opposition Vijender Gupta, demanded a discussion on 351 roads, which are to be notified under commercial and mixed-use category to save businessmen on the stretches from being evicted from the sealing drive.

The AAP legislators carrying “anti-BJP” placards continued to raise slogans against the BJP-led municipal corporations and stormed into the well bringing the House to a standstill. Speaker Ram Niwas Goel adjourned the proceedings thrice for 15 minutes each and for 30 minutes for the fourth time.

However after multiple adjournments, on the fifth time, when Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia rose to speak on the issue, the BJP legislators again insisted a discussion on the status of 351 roads, prompting Goel to order Gupta and another BJP MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa be escorted out of the House by marshals. The other two BJP legislators OP Sharma and Jagdish Pradhan also walked out of the House.
